Through the Opera In The Schools Program, professional artists each year introduce the wonders of opera to over 3,200 children in our inner city public and parochial schools who otherwise would receive little or no exposure to classical music.
The Opera for Schools outreach programs, presented in the Philadelphia and Montgomery County regions, are music education and enrichment specifically designed to address the unique aspects of performing and interacting with students of all ages as well as residents and attendees of retirement life communities and nursing homes. These programs actively engage audiences while further contributing to their cultural/educational development and quality of life experience.
The target audiences of our Opera in the Schools and Youth Guild programs are those minority, inner city, middle and secondary education students of the School District of Philadelphia's public schools and parochial schools with largely economically disadvantaged population(s). Opera North's public performances are usually attended by a seventy-eight percent African American audience representing wide ranges of income levels. The opera company determined productions of non-traditional opera presentations intensified audience development for the communities in which it serves.
